Field Hockey: The Team Experience 10/09 - by Cheri Cope, MS
This fall I had the privilege of working with Divine Savior Holy Angel's girls varsity field hockey team by assisting them with building and strengthening what they called their, "TEAMUNITY." As a team, they established goals and openly discussed how every player is responsible for their success. They were starting fresh this year with a new coach and they wanted to build a foundation of team cohesion, trust, communication and success. They ended the season with more losses than wins, but because of their desire and commitment to stay focused and united to do their best at every game and practice, they remained positive and motivated until the very end. They accomplished most of the goals that they established in the beginning of the season and are proud that they can say that this year's team "started the track to improvement and "Big Things" for the future."
The head coach of this field hockey team, is responsible for developing a team that values preparation, effort, and will. As a result, they experienced growth, pride and success in the ways that were important to them. There is no doubt that next season they will be great and "Big Things" will happen for them.
